Nine years in, starting again
We opened in 2017 as the first real Bulgarian crypto exchange. Today we are building the payment infrastructure Bulgaria deserves.
In 2017, buying Bitcoin from Bulgaria meant foreign platforms, cards passed through three intermediaries and support tickets in English. xChange.bg opened in Sofia with a simple idea: buying and selling crypto in your own language, funded straight from a Bulgarian bank account, with a person you could call.
The years that followed proved the idea. In January 2021 we shipped the first Bulgarian mobile app for crypto trading, an order placed in under a minute. Over 15,000 clients registered and more than 20,000 orders went through, funded by bank transfer, EasyPay and Cashterminal, with support answering in Bulgarian.
On 1 July 2026, MiCA, the EU regulation for crypto-asset markets, took full effect. Operating the old exchange in a grey zone was an option. We did not take it. We closed the exchange instead, a decision that cost us, and the right one for our clients.
This is the new beginning: the same team on new infrastructure. Balances are held in USDC, a digital dollar backed 1:1 by reserves, in a wallet only the client controls. Payments run through licensed partners: an EU e-money institution, a US-chartered bank. We operate the technology.
What did not change: you see the price before you confirm, support is a person answering in Bulgarian, and there are no monthly fees.
