The calculator above answers one question: after fees, how much do you actually receive when you move money between a bank account and a stablecoin? It works in both directions, for EUR or USD with USDC, the US dollar stablecoin issued by Circle.
What you enter
- Direction. "Bank to stablecoin" means you send EUR or USD and receive USDC. "Stablecoin to bank" means you send USDC and receive EUR or USD.
- Amount. In the currency you send.
- Currency. EUR or USD.
- Bank comparison (optional). Your bank's percentage fee, its fixed fee and its FX markup.
How the result is calculated
1. The fee. The calculator uses the fees published on the xChange.bg pricing page:
| Direction | Fee | Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Bank to stablecoin (on-ramp) | 1.5% | EUR 1 |
| Stablecoin to bank (off-ramp) | 1.25% | EUR 2 |
The fee is the higher of the percentage and the minimum. The minimums are in EUR, so the calculator converts them into the currency you send at the live rate: at 0.86 EUR per USDC, the EUR 2 minimum is about 2.33 USDC.
2. The rate. When the page loads, it asks CoinGecko for the current market price of USDC in EUR and USD. The rate row shows it to four decimals, for example "1 USDC = 0.8600 EUR". If the price cannot be loaded, the calculator falls back to built-in indicative rates (1 USDC = 0.86 EUR or 1 USD) and says so under the result.
3. The amount you receive.
- Bank to stablecoin: (amount minus fee) ÷ price of one USDC.
- Stablecoin to bank: (amount minus fee) × price of one USDC.
Worked examples
All examples use a rate of 0.8600 EUR per USDC, so you can follow the arithmetic.
Buying USDC with EUR 1,000. The fee is 1.5% of 1,000, which is EUR 15.00. That leaves EUR 985.00. Divided by 0.86, you receive about 1,145.35 USDC.
Selling 1,000 USDC for EUR. The fee is 1.25% of 1,000, which is 12.50 USDC. The remaining 987.50 USDC × 0.86 gives EUR 849.25.
Selling 100 USDC. 1.25% would be 1.25 USDC (about EUR 1.08), below the EUR 2 minimum, so the fee is 2.33 USDC. The remaining 97.67 USDC × 0.86 gives EUR 84.00.
Comparing with your bank
Open "Compare with your bank or card" and fill in any of three fields. The calculator then shows what your bank would deliver and the difference.
- Their fee: a percentage of the amount.
- Their fixed fee: a flat charge in the currency you send.
- Their FX markup: how much worse than the market rate their exchange rate is, in percent.
The bank figure is: amount, minus the percentage fee, minus the fixed fee, converted at the same market rate made worse by the markup. It is shown in the same unit as the stablecoin result so the two figures line up.
Example: you want dollars for EUR 1,000, and your bank charges 0.5%, a EUR 15 fixed fee and a 2% FX markup. The bank keeps EUR 20 in fees, leaving EUR 980. Converted at 0.86 × 1.02 = 0.8772, that is about 1,117.19. The stablecoin route from the first example gives 1,145.35, a difference of 28.16 in your favour.
The comparison can also go the other way. If your bank charges nothing and uses the market rate, the difference is negative, by roughly the size of the xChange.bg fee. The calculator shows that result as it is.
What the result leaves out
- Network fees. Sending USDC on-chain to another wallet costs the network fee at that moment. Transfers between xChange.bg clients are free.
- Charges by other banks. A sending bank or an intermediary bank on an international wire can take its own fee before the money arrives.
- Price movement. The market price can change between the calculation and the conversion.
- Tax. Selling a stablecoin for money, or swapping one stablecoin for another, is a disposal for Bulgarian tax purposes. Use the crypto tax calculator to estimate the tax on your yearly result.
Where the fees apply
The xChange.bg account itself is free. The conversion fees apply when money changes form: into USDC when it arrives in your EUR or USD account, and back into money when you send it to a bank. Incoming EUR arrives by SEPA and USD by ACH or wire, into accounts in your own name provided through the licensed partner Bridge. Frequently asked questions
Is the rate in the calculator the exact rate I will get?
- No. The calculator uses the market price that CoinGecko publishes for USDC. The price at the moment of conversion can differ slightly, so treat the result as an estimate rather than a quote.
Why is there a minimum fee?
- The published xChange.bg fees are 1.5% with a minimum of EUR 1 to buy and 1.25% with a minimum of EUR 2 to sell. On small amounts the minimum is larger than the percentage, so the calculator charges the minimum instead.
Does the result include blockchain network fees?
- No. The calculator covers the conversion fee only. Sending stablecoins on-chain to another wallet costs the network fee at the time of the transfer. Transfers between xChange.bg clients are free.
Can I calculate both EUR to USDC and USD to USDC?
- Yes. Both work, in either direction. The calculator uses the market price of USDC in the chosen currency, so for euros the EUR/USD conversion is built into the rate.
What should I enter as my bank's FX markup?
- The markup is the percentage by which your bank's exchange rate is worse than the market rate. You can estimate it by comparing the rate on a recent bank statement with a market rate for the same day.
Is my amount sent anywhere?
- No. The page only downloads the current USDC prices from CoinGecko. The amounts and bank fees you type are calculated in your browser and are not sent.
