Facts checked on
Wirex and xChange.bg look alike at first glance. Both give you EUR account details, both keep stablecoins in a wallet you control, and both are built around moving between bank money and crypto. The differences are in what is live today, what is published, and who stands behind each part of the service. This page compares them as of 16 September 2026.
Who each service is for
Wirex suits people who want to spend crypto with a card now. In 2026 Wirex moved its EEA customers to Wirex One, which combines a non-custodial wallet with a Mastercard and EUR account details (sources 1 and 5). The company advertises cashback on card spending and 24/7 support (source 4). Its supported-countries article lists Bulgaria with account, crypto and card features, although the article is undated (source 6).
xChange.bg suits people and companies who receive and send euros and dollars and want the balance to sit in USDC. It gives EUR and USD account details in your own name, converts incoming money at a published rate, and pays out to any bank. Its Visa card is coming soon.
Licence and regulation
The Wirex One terms say regulated crypto services in the EEA are provided by authorised companies within the Wirex Group or by authorised third-party partners, without naming them (source 1). The card is issued by Transact Payments Malta Limited, an electronic money institution authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority, and the card programme is run by UAB Wirex in Lithuania (source 1). The wallet itself is described as software that does not constitute a regulated service.
No Wirex entity appeared in ESMA's interim MiCA register of crypto-asset service providers on 16 September 2026 (source 8). Wirex Digital Services S.r.l. said it would apply for MiCA authorisation in Italy and that services would continue until 30 June 2026 or until the authority decided, whichever came first (source 7). We did not find a published outcome, so which authorised entity provides crypto services to EEA users after 1 July 2026 is not published.
xChange.bg is a technology provider. EUR and USD accounts and conversions are provided by regulated partner Bridge, a Stripe company.
Custody: both self-custody
This is where the two are closest. Wirex One is a non-custodial wallet (source 1), and xChange.bg uses a self-custody wallet where you hold the keys. In both, nobody can reverse a transfer sent to a wrong address. Card payments at Wirex may convert assets from your wallet into fiat through third-party providers at the moment of payment (source 1).
Account details and bank transfers
Wirex provides EUR account details as virtual IBANs through one or more regulated third-party providers. The terms do not say in whose name the account is held (source 1). Its upgrade FAQ says existing EUR details stayed the same after the move to Wirex One and that incoming and outgoing EUR transfers continue to work (source 5). The terms also say Wirex may refuse payments from accounts not registered in your name.
xChange.bg gives you an IBAN in your own name and USD account details for ACH and wire, so employers, clients and platforms can pay you directly. Payouts go to your own or a recipient's bank.
Fees
Wirex lists SEPA deposits and withdrawals in EUR as free, with SEPA transfers up to EUR 50,000 a day (sources 2 and 3). Exchange fees between currencies and crypto vary by pair and liquidity and are shown in the app, not published as a percentage (source 2). Card issuance is free; ATM withdrawals are free up to EUR 200 a month, then 2% (source 2).
xChange.bg charges 1.5% on incoming money (minimum EUR 1), 1.25% on payouts to a bank (minimum EUR 2), nothing for the account or transfers between clients, and network cost for on-chain sends.
Because the Wirex conversion fee is not published, we cannot build a fair EUR cost example for converting EUR to USDC and back. On Wirex the bank leg is free and the cost sits in the exchange rate; on xChange.bg the cost is the published percentage. Compare the amount that lands in your wallet for the same EUR transfer on the same day. The stablecoin wallet page explains how xChange.bg shows it before you confirm.
Stablecoins
xChange.bg offers USDC. Wirex's global page mentions receiving BTC, ETH, USDT and more (source 4), but Wirex does not publish which stablecoins EEA users of Wirex One can buy or exchange.

Service record
Wirex's own status page recorded a Wirex One balances migration issue from 28 June 2026, fixed on 29 June, and a major incident affecting all financial operations on 3 September 2026, resolved the same day (source 10). On Trustpilot, Wirex showed 2.4 from about 17,600 reviews on 16 September 2026 (source 9). Our Wirex review covers the regulatory history.
How to switch from Wirex to xChange.bg
- Open an xChange.bg account online and verify your identity.
- Copy your xChange.bg wallet address and note the network.
- In Wirex One, send a small amount of USDC on a matching network, such as Solana, Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon or Optimism.
- Once it arrives, move the rest.
- Give clients your new xChange.bg IBAN or USD details for future payments.
If you keep the Wirex card for spending, the two can run side by side. Converting crypto to EUR can create taxable income; see our crypto tax guide.
