Facts checked on
DigitalAssist and xChange.bg both put stablecoins into a wallet you control, and neither keeps your coins on an exchange balance. The difference is the door you use. DigitalAssist is a network of crypto ATMs where you feed in euro banknotes or take them out. xChange.bg is an account where money arrives and leaves by bank transfer. Which one fits depends mostly on whether your money is cash or in a bank.
Who each service is for
DigitalAssist suits people who want to buy or sell small to medium amounts of crypto for cash, on the spot, without linking a bank account. The company says it has operated since 2020 and runs eight machines in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas, mostly in shopping centres (source 4). It sells and buys BTC, ETH, LTC and USDC (source 5).
xChange.bg suits people and companies whose money moves through banks: salaries and invoices in euro, client payments in dollars, supplier payments abroad. You receive EUR on an IBAN in your name and USD on account details in your name, and both land as USDC in your wallet.
Licence and regulation
DigitalAssist has its own licence. The Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) authorised Digital Assist OOD as a crypto-asset service provider by decision No. 500-ДУКА of 21 July 2026 (source 1). The licence covers one MiCA service: exchange of crypto-assets for funds. The company is in the FSC register (source 2) and in ESMA's interim MiCA register, where the cross-border field lists only Bulgaria (source 3).
The narrow scope matches the product: the ATM exchanges cash for coins and sends them to your own address without holding them for you. Our MiCA in Bulgaria guide covers the services a MiCA licence can include.
xChange.bg is a technology provider. EUR and USD accounts and conversions are provided by regulated partner Bridge, a Stripe company.
Custody: similar model
Both keep you in charge of your coins. At a DigitalAssist ATM you scan your own wallet address and the purchase goes there (source 5). At xChange.bg the balance sits in a self-custody wallet where you hold the keys. In both cases a wrong address or wrong network can mean a loss that nobody can reverse.
Money in and money out
DigitalAssist. You insert EUR cash and receive crypto, or send crypto and collect EUR cash. After a source-of-funds declaration you can also buy or sell up to EUR 15,000 by bank transfer (source 4). The daily limit is EUR 4,990 per client. At the basic level you are identified by phone number; extra checks start at EUR 990 of turnover, with a Travel Rule form for each further EUR 990 (source 4).
xChange.bg. You, an employer, a client or a platform pays your EUR IBAN or USD account details, and the money lands as USDC. To cash out, you send to any bank account, yours or a supplier's, in EUR or USD.
Fees and a cost example
Both publish their fees, so a direct comparison is possible.
DigitalAssist charges a 3% commission on purchases and 4% on sales, on the real-time Kraken rate, plus a fixed network fee of EUR 3 on each purchase that can range from EUR 1 to EUR 10 with network load (source 6). The same rates apply to all four assets.
xChange.bg charges 1.5% to convert incoming money (minimum EUR 1) and 1.25% to send money to a bank (minimum EUR 2). The account is free.
Buying USDC with EUR 1,000:
| xChange.bg | DigitalAssist | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | EUR 15.00 (1.5%) | EUR 30.00 (3%) + EUR 3.00 network fee |
| Value received | EUR 985.00 in USDC | EUR 967.00 in USDC |
Selling USDC worth EUR 1,000:
| xChange.bg | DigitalAssist | |
|---|---|---|
| Fee | EUR 12.50 (1.25%) | EUR 40.00 (4%) |
| You receive | EUR 987.50 by bank transfer | EUR 960.00 in cash |
The example uses the fee rules only. The DigitalAssist network fee can move between EUR 1 and EUR 10, and the exchange rate each side applies at the moment of the trade also affects the result. Try your own amounts with the stablecoin fee calculator.
Where DigitalAssist is stronger
- Cash. No bank account or transfer is needed; you walk up with banknotes.
- Speed at the machine. The purchase is sent while you stand there.
- Low entry barrier. Small amounts need only a phone number.
- More coins. BTC, ETH and LTC as well as USDC.
- Its own licence. An FSC MiCA authorisation in the company's name.
- Locations. Eight machines in four cities, with long mall opening hours and two Sofia sites open 24/7 (source 4).
Where xChange.bg is different
- Lower published fees. 1.5% in and 1.25% out against 3% plus a network fee in and 4% out.
- Accounts in your name. Others can pay you directly by SEPA, ACH or wire.
- Larger amounts by bank. No cash handling and no trip to a mall.
- Dollar accounts. USD account details, which the ATMs do not offer.
- Payments to others. You can pay a supplier's bank account.
DigitalAssist's terms list phone support on working days from 09:00 to 18:00, while its homepage advertises 24/7 support (sources 4 and 5). xChange.bg offers support in Bulgarian and English by email and at its Sofia office.
How to switch from DigitalAssist to xChange.bg
- Open an xChange.bg account online and verify your identity.
- Find your wallet address in the app and note its network.
- If you hold USDC bought at an ATM, send a small test amount from your current wallet to the xChange.bg address on the same network.
- Send the rest once the test arrives.
- For new purchases, send EUR from your bank to your xChange.bg IBAN instead of using cash.
If you sell coins other than USDC first, keep a record: selling or exchanging crypto can create taxable income, as our crypto tax guide explains.
